Kappaya at the Convent

So the other day, me and two friends trooped down to the Abbotsford Convent for some Japanese food at Kappaya.

Now I had never been to the Convent before and was quite taken aback. Firstly this place used to be a huge catholic convent. Lots of nuns doing lots of charity work. It’s also in a beautiful location.

Nowadays, the convent is run as a non-profit secular organisation. It has a few restaurants (lentil as anything and the convent bakery (great coffee!), art gallery, commercial art studio space, animal farm (we fed the horses, pony and donkey - the sheep were not interested) and gardens. I’m sure there is more. Definitely worth a visit!

Back to Kappaya - this place is run out of the old convent kitchens (used to feed 1000 people). They share it with the other food places. The inside seating is pretty cosy, but there is ample room outside.

I opted for the $12 bento. Quite affordable really. For that I got this:

It was pretty great.
